Oxycontin

Oxycontin Detox

What is Oxycontin Detox?

Oxycontin detox is a three phase process designed to rid oxycontin addicts from the grip of opiate addiction. The most effective oxycontin treatment combines a safe atmosphere, knowledgeable staff, skilled physicians, effective medications and proper nutrition.  The greatest fear oxycontin addicts have is the fear of Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms. This fear can keep a person in their addiction for years and years.

The key to a successful Oxycontin detox is to relieve the addict from the perceived threat of pain, nausea and insomnia. At Orange County Detox we go to great lengths assuage that fear. The fact is Orange County Detox has developed a treatment program that practically eliminates pain from the Oxycontin detox process.

The main concepts employed within our Oxycontin detox process are “efficacy” and “compassion.” Orange County Detox believes in a humane detox for anyone suffering from Oxycontin addiction.  The fact is within 24 hours after admission most clients are amazed that they feel so well. We use a specialized Oxycontin detox program just for Oxycontin addicts unlike the protocol opiate detox programs of many other detox centers. Each individual will have a different set of issues (emotional, psychological) and health concerns (age, medical history, etc…) which require individualized detox programs. Simply put a 23 year old Oxycontin smoker will have a different opiate detox than a 40 year old teacher addicted to methadone. The overall concepts, phases and goals are the same but the little nuances change for each individual.

Street Names

Some of the street names for OxyContin include Oxy, hillbilly heroin, 20’s, 40’s and 80’s.

Oxycontin Manufacturer

The Pharmaceutical manufacturer, Purdue Pharma, has admitted to misleading physicians and the public about the dangers of Oxycontin. Purdue Pharma has taken responsibility for misleading statements by some of their employees.

Under the legal settlement, Purdue Pharma will pay $643 million in fines. Families whose relatives used Oxycontin say that is a small amount compared to the $10 billion in sales the company earned while the fraudulent marketing campaign was underway.

What is Oxycontin?

OxyContin is a semi synthetic opioid analgesic synthesized from thebaine. It is prescribed for chronic or long-lasting pain. The active ingredient within Oxycontin is oxycodone, which is also found in drugs like Percodan and Roxicet (aceteminophin based). Roxicet is an up and coming street drug known on the streets as “Stops.” OxyContin can contain between 10 and 160 milligrams of oxycodone in a timed-release table.

How Is OxyContin Used?

Generally, OxyContin is prescribed to be taken twice a day, a benefit over other pain-relieving medications that have to be taken several times a day. It is usually prescribed to help patients with chronic pain, such as back and neck pain as well as to cancer patients to help them decrease pain and improve function.
How Is OxyContin Abused? OxyContin addicts either crush the tablet and ingest or snort it or they dilute it in water and inject it. Crushing or diluting the tablet disarms the timed-release action of the medication, but crushing OxyContin in this way can give the user a potentially fatal dose.

What Are the Effects of OxyContin?

OxyContin is an effective pain reliever, but when crushed and snorted or injected, the drug produces a quick and powerful "high" that some abusers compare to the feeling they get when they use heroin. The NIDA reports that in some areas of the country, OxyContin abuse rates are actually higher than heroin use.

Because OxyContin, like heroin and other opiates, is a central nervous system depressant and overdose can cause respiratory failure and death. Some symptoms of OxyContin overdose include:

  • Hypoventilation (Respiratory Depression)
  • Seizures
  • Dizziness
  • Weakness
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Coma
  • Confusion
  • Tiredness
  • Cold and clammy skin
  • Small pupils
  • Reduced vision
  • Nausea
  • Vomiting
  • Clouding of mental functions

Oxycontin Treatment

Orange County Detox offer Oxycontin addicts a way out from the clutches of Oxycontin addiction in a safe and effective manner. Our Oxycontin treatment program is designed to rid a person of the compulsion to use Oxycontin. The first step in that process is to remove the Oxycontin from the body without putting the Oxycontin addict in a state of despair and discomfort. We use skilled physicians and knowledgeable counselors to guide a person through Oxycontin withdrawal so they can regain their freedom. Orange County Detox recognizes that Oxycontin addicts fear the opiate withdrawal process.

The first part of our Oxycontin treatment program is to ensure every Oxycontin addict they will overcome their Oxycontin addiction without physically falling apart. Our emphasis each day is on three targeted areas: Nutrition-Medication-Rest. If an Oxycontin addict can sleep each night through the Oxycontin withdrawal process than success is usually a foregone conclusion. Rarely have we seen an Oxycontin addict fail that has thoroughly followed our track.

The second part of our Oxycontin treatment program is threefold. First, we schedule the initial induction and stabilize the patient. That usually means a suboxone detox program. Each stabilization process can differ for each person depending upon; the amount of Oxycontin they use each day and how long have they continuously used. The vast majority of Oxycontin addicts will stabilize within 24 to 72 hours. The second phase is known as the taper or titration phase. This phase is where the physician’s skills are of the utmost importance. A proper taper will allow most Oxycontin addicts the chance to withdraw in relative comfort. The third and final phase is known as the discontinuation or stager stage. Skilled physicians will adjust medications to a point where all medications are removed from the suboxone treatment program without the client noticing the adjustment or their return to freedom.

This type of Oxycontin treatment (Three on Three Treatment Program) has proven to be the most effective treatment model available. There are other types of Oxycontin treatment modalities but they usually mean discomfort and or lack of effectiveness. If an Oxycontin addict wants the very best treatment program available we can help. Orange County Detox and Orange County Rehab specialize in opiate treatment and are renowned by some of the oldest and largest treatment centers in the country. We contract for many of those treatment centers and handle their most difficult Oxycontin detox clientele. If you want the experts in Oxycontin detox give us a call at (877) 338-6962.

OxyContin Addiction!

OxyContin is a highly addictive narcotic. Even cancer patients who use the drug as prescribed are advised not to suddenly stop taking OxyContin, but gradually reduce the dosage to avoid withdrawal symptoms. Even people who take OxyContin (Oxycodone) as prescribed can become addicted if taken for a long enough period.

Abusers of the Oxycontin, who take higher than prescribed dosage, can develop a tolerance for OxyContin which can cause them to take ever-increasing larger amounts to achieve the same effect. They can become addicted or dependent on the drug rapidly.

Oxycontin Withdrawal

Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome

Oxycontin withdrawal can be a debilitating and painful experience. But it does not have to be. The duration of Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms vary depending upon length of use, amount of use, type of administration and overall health. A younger person experiencing their first withdrawal will often find, after looking back, that their first Oxycontin withdrawal would be as easy as it would ever be again. The body becomes so dependent upon Oxycontin that safe usage of any opiate after an addiction has set in is impossible. “Once an Oxycontin addict always an Oxycontin addict,” is a common experience for most Oxycontin addicts. The goal is to remain abstinent. Remain vigilant and avoid risky situations can become a life-long mantra.

Oxycontin withdrawal duration rarely lasts longer than a couple of weeks, but for some, especially the Oxycontin addict of many years, Oxycontin withdrawal can last months (Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome). The most common Oxycontin withdrawal symptom is sleeplessness (insomnia). In fact, the fear of sleeplessness can keep many Oxycontin addicts from asking for help. Proper nutrition, hydration and exercise can minimize the likelihood of a lengthy and debilitating Oxycontin withdrawal. Orange County Detox now has a detox from Oxycontin program that minimizes most Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms. Oxycontin detox treatment with a skilled physician at a safe and effective treatment center can allow Oxycontin addicts a painless opiate detox experience. Call (877) 338-6962 for more information.

Physical withdrawal from discontinuation of Oxycontin can have a wide array of symptoms. The most common Oxycontin Withdrawal Symptoms may include:

  • Sleeplessnes (Insomnia)
  • Diahrea
  • Vomiting
  • Nausea
  • Cold Sweats
  • Sneezing
  • Muscle and Bone Pain
  • Goose Flesh
  • Restless Leg Syndrome
  • Watery Eyes
  • Dehydration
  • Stomach Cramps
  • Lethargy
  • Loss of Appetite
  • Slower Reflexes
  • Increased Blood Pressure
  • Increased Heart Rate
  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Suicidal Ideations
  • Slower Reflexes
  • Increased Blood Pressure
  • Increased Heart Rate

Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms can begin as soon as six hours after the last dose and can last weeks. People who have gone through OxyContin withdrawal compare the process to the intensity of methadone and heroin withdrawal.
